Bloomsburg Field Hockey Drops First Game of the Season
SHIPPENSBURG — The Bloomsburg University field hockey team suffered its first loss of the year on Wednesday losing to PSAC-rival Shippensburg by a 6-2 score.
The Lady Raiders got two goals each from Ashley Watt and Kimberly Davies on its way to the win. Shippensburg scored goals in the ninth and 11th minutes to grab the early advantage. The Huskies trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a goal from Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) off an assist from Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/Lower Moreland) at the 23 minute mark. Watt and Davies then scored back to back in the 32nd and 34th minutes to make it a 4-1 game at halftime.
After Shippensburg scored to make it 5-1 at 54:01, the Huskies' Vanartsdalen scored off a Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) assist to make it 5-2. Shippensburg scored the game's final goal with less than four minutes to play to make the final 6-2.
The loss snapped an 18- game winning streak for the Huskies dating back to last year. Bloomsburg falls to 7-1, 4-1 in the PSAC, with the loss, while Shippensburg improves to 10-0, 5-0 in the PSAC. The Huskies host Houghton College on Friday at 4 p.m.
